Eligibility Criteria and Application

These criteria must be met in order to be eligible for assistance from the Iowa Lutheran STO.

Families must be Iowa residents. The child(ren) must be in grades K-12 as of the 2023-2024 school year. At this time, preschool is not supported by the law.

Family income (defined as the amount shown on Line 9 of the Federal Tax Form 1040 can be no more than 400% of the poverty level.

The goal of the STO is to help as many families as possible, so feel free to email questions to Dewey Torkelson or ask for help from your school–DO NOT LET ANY PART OF THE PROCESS OVERWHELM YOU!

The deadline for applying for assistance is May 1, 2023. It is the goal of the STO to advise people of the status of their applications by May 10, 2023.

* STO qualifying levels are based upon 400% of 2023 Federal Poverty Levels as required by Iowa law.

**Family size includes parents/guardians plus total number of dependents claimed on 2022 tax return. For families with more than 12 persons, add $5,140 to the 12 persons in Family Poverty Guideline and $20,560 to 12 Persons in family STO 400% amount for each additional person.

*** Families are eligible for STO assistance if their taxable income is at or below the above listed income levels. Local assistance may not be based upon the above. Falling within these guidelines does not necessarily guarantee tuition assistance.
